W pełni skomputeryzowany Startle Response System jest przeznaczony do dokładnego i pewnego określenia odruchu zaskoczenia i sensomotorycznego bramkowania u gryzoni. W eksperymentach PPI (hamowania przedsygnałowego) słaby przedsygnał w odpowiedzi na stymulację, indukuje zredukowaną odpowiedźlękową.

Zwierzęta są umieszczone w bardzo małych, ograniczających większość ruchów i wyciszonych klatkach, na platformach dostosowanych do poszczególnych gatunków, wyposażonych w precyzyjne, pomiarowe czujniki. Elastyczne oprogramowanie umożliwia użytkownikowi tworzenie własnych protokołów eksperymentu łącznie z wzorami przedsygnałów.
