Brine shrimp are an excellent food for zebrafish because they are high in protein and fatty acids, and an easy live food source because they can be stored and then easily hatched when needed.
Aquaneering sells the Artemia food as cysts, which is an egg surrounded by a protective shell. Dehydrated cysts are metabolically inactive and can remain dormant for years. The cysts will hatch once they are rehydrated. With each hatcher, Aquaneering provides instructions on hatching the Artemia cysts.

The Aquaneering Brine Shrimp Hatcher comes equipped with:
- Cone hatcher with molded-in plastic drain valve
The conical shape and drain valve makes it easy to separate the hatched shrimp from their shells and drain them from the hatcher. - Air pump and tubing with air stone or plastic straw (optional)
An air pump provides the necessary aeration to hatch the cysts by keeping the egg cysts in suspension and oxygenating the water. - Stand (optional)
