Rat intermittent IV dose

Short-term, low-stress dosing through a catheter without a tether.

This simple system is designed for intermittent doses of up to several minutes at a time, whether from a syringe pump or a manual bolus. In these cases direct injections can cause too much stress or trauma over the course of a study, but a continuous tethered system is overkill for the short duration of the dose.

Catheterized animals with Vascular Access Buttons™ can be group housed using the protective cap. To dose, move the animal into a temporary cage and connect the pump or syringe using PinPort™ extension set to the VAB™ port. If the animal is monitored and not overly active during the dose, you should not need a swivel and protective spring tether. Flush in the balance of the dose with an appropriate sterile flush or lock solution and return the animal to group housing until the next dose.
