Features

AT-3648 Air Table

The AT-3648 vibration isolation air table is the larger counterpart to the AT-3036, giving researchers extra bench space for setups that combine patch-clamp electrophysiology with imaging equipment. Like the rest of the TMC air table range offered by Sutter Instrument, it uses active air suspension to continuously level the table and isolate the work surface from vertical and horizontal vibration.

Magnetic Breadboard Tabletop

The stainless steel, magnetic breadboard top with M6 on 25 mm centers tapped holes allows direct mounting of micromanipulators, stages and other rig hardware without additional adapters.

Perimeter Enclosure and Sliding Shelf

A perimeter enclosure protects the tabletop edge from accidental knocks, and a sliding side shelf above the work surface keeps controllers and other devices close at hand without crowding the recording area.

Optional Faraday Cage

An integrated Faraday cage for electrophysiology with wire-mesh roll-up door is available for low-noise recordings, with three 5 cm cable pass-through openings and a 102 cm interior height. An optional overhead U-shaped rear shelf can hold gravity perfusion components or other accessories.

Applications

  • Patch-clamp electrophysiology — the larger footprint accommodates two micromanipulators simultaneously, making the AT-3648 the preferred choice for dual-pipette or paired whole-cell recording experiments. The optional Faraday cage keeps electromagnetic interference away from sensitive headstages.
  • Combined electrophysiology and imaging — when a fluorescence or confocal system shares the table with patch-clamp hardware, the additional 30 cm of bench depth prevents crowding and keeps optical paths unobstructed. This makes the AT-3648 the standard choice for combined patch clamp and imaging rigs.
  • Cellular and sub-cellular microinjection — stable, vibration-free positioning is critical for precise needle placement at the cellular level. The AT-3648 supports both manual and motorised micromanipulator systems across the full working area.
