MM-33 Micromanipulator

Code MM-33
The MM-33 from Sutter Instrument is a compact, manual 3-axis micromanipulator built around stainless steel cross-loaded roller bearings and a precise rack-and-pinion drive. Ideal for tight environments where maximum versatility in a small space is needed. Includes a vertical axis lock; optional rotating base (120° horizontal, 0–70° tilt) and tiltable X-axis (up to 45°) extend utility.

MM-33 — Compact Manual Micromanipulator

The MM-33 from Sutter Instrument is a compact, practical manual micromanipulator designed for applications that require maximum versatility in the smallest possible footprint. Successfully used alongside Sutter's motorized manipulators in complex experiments, and as a stand-alone unit in teaching environments, the MM-33 delivers stable, drift-free manual positioning without the need for motors or electronics.

Key Features

  • Stainless steel cross-loaded roller bearings: Pre-loaded at 90° to hardened steel guides — low friction, smooth linear motion, minimal side play
  • Precision rack-and-pinion drive: Stable, drift-free movement with minimal backlash; controls placed one above the other for ergonomic, "blind" operation
  • Coarse scales: All axes calibrated in 0.10 mm increments
  • Fine micrometer X-axis: Calibrated at 0.01 mm with estimates to 5 µm resolution
  • Vertical axis lock: Locks the position of the vertical axis, increasing stability during recording
  • Compact design: Right choice for tight environments requiring maximum versatility within a small space

Options (factory installed at time of order)

  • Rotating base: Adds two extra rotational planes — approximately 120° horizontal rotation (positive stop, quick release for fast pipette insertion/removal) and 0–70° vertical tilt
  • Tiltable X-axis: Fine axis tilts up to 45° for angled approaches

Applications

  • Teaching and training environments
  • Supplementary manipulator alongside motorized systems
  • Applications in tight or confined experimental setups
  • Coarse positioning where submicron accuracy is not required
