Origin:The spontaneous mutation "obese" (Fatty) was found in the 13 M rat stock of Sherman and Merck by Doctor Lois Zucker, Harriet Bird Memorial Laboratory, Stow Massachusetts 01775, USA, in 1961. The strain was introduced in Orléans at CSEAL, France in 1970; then transferred to Charles River France in 1991. To Charles River Italy in 2014.

Coat color: Agouti

Strain codes: 1691 (obese), 690 (lean)

Ideal for: Insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, metabolic syndrome, genetic obesity.
